The Blurb

Alexis Wyndham is the other type of Queen B—the Queen Bitch.

After years of being the subject of ridicule, she revels in her ability to make the in-crowd cower via the exposés on her blog, The Eastline Spy. Now that she’s carved out her place in the high school hierarchy, she uses her position to help the unpopular kids walking the hallways.

Saving a freshman from bullies? Check.
Swapping insults with the head cheerleader? Check.
Falling for the star quarterback? So not a part of her plan.

But when Brett offers to help her solve the mystery of who’s posting X-rated videos from the girls’ locker room, she’ll have to swallow her pride and learn to see past the high school stereotypes she’s never questioned—until now.

The Review

Firstly, let me get this out of the way. YA fiction is kicking some serious behind. I know I have said this time and time and time again but it is true. Confessions of a Queen B by Crista McHugh is one such YA fiction. It is your classic Romeo and Juliet story except without the teen suicide.

When Alexis and Brett get paired to work together on a school project Alexis is dismayed. She hates everybody and everything and her one goal is to get out of high school. In the meantime, she has found a way to survive it by blogging about the injustices that those who do not matriculate high in the social hierarchy have to face at the hands of the jocks and cheerleaders. Everyone fears Alexis…except for Brett.

As they get closer during their health class project, Alexis comes to realise that her prejudices might be unfounded and she finds herself falling just a little bit in love.

Confessions of a Queen B is brilliant. The writing is sharp, sassy and a little bit sexy. The sexual tension between Brett and Alexis is on point. It sounds quite strange to say that but bear with me. McHugh is writing for a teenage audience, those whose hormones are driving them crazy and she doesn’t talk down to them with her writing or descriptions. She writes her sexy scenes as they are in real life, laced with tension, heat and as if they are exciting and fun. McHugh has treated her audience with a level of respect and maturity that some YA writers shy away from. Kudos, Crista McHugh.

What is even more brilliant than the epic awesomeness of Confessions of a Queen B I hear you ask? Well, that would be that there are two more books that have followed it and yes I have downloaded them to read straight away.
