The Blurb

The Queen B*, Alexis Wyndham, has only three rules when it comes to dating the star quarterback, Brett Pederson:

1.No obligations to spend every waking moment with each other.

2.No public displays of affection while at Eastline High.

3.And absolutely, under no circumstances, will she ever go to the Homecoming dance.

But as her life is completely upended time and time again, she begins to wonder if some rules are meant to be broken.

The Review

Today I am sad.

No not because The Queen B* and the Homecoming King (The Queen B* #3) was a bad story; far from it. In fact, it was really, really good. I am sad because I have no more books left in the Queen B* series to read.

In the latest Queen B* adventures Alexis and Brett face new dilemmas; they have moved on from the Summer drama. However, their latest challenge may prove the hardest yet to overcome.

Ok, to be honest, this third book was probably my least favourite out of the three books. I still loved it and I still got completely sucked into the world of Eastline High but I think The Queen B* and the Homecoming King was a much slower paced in comparison to the two previous books. I think this is helped by the fact that Alexis has softened. She isn’t as constantly angsty has she has been in the other books. The Queen B* and the Homecoming King (The Queen B* #3) is a brilliant read but I didn’t feel in as much of a rush to find out what happened next.

Somewhat ironically I am now chomping at the bit to find out what happens now. Will Alexis and Brett come to some mutual agreement concerning college? Will Morgan reveal the truth to her parents? What will Alexis’s mom’s wedding be like? And will Brett and Alexis ever do it? Who knows? The ball is in your court Crista McHugh. We want more Queen B*!

The Blurb

Alexis Wyndham isn’t quite sure what to think about her “friendship” with star quarterback, Brett Pederson. Sure, he has more intelligence than the entire football team combined. Not to mention that fact he’s a great kisser. When he asks her to help him with his college admission essays, she isn’t sure if he’s doing it to spend more time with her or if he’s just using her for her brains. But after her nemesis, Summer Hoyt, makes it clear she’s not finished chasing after Brett, Alexis begins realize how hard she’s fallen for Brett. Now the war is on, and the head cheerleader will find out why she should never take on a Queen B*.

The Review

Damn you, Crista McHugh.

Actually, behind that silly rhyme is an admiration for the Queen B series. The “Damn you” comes from the fact that I cannot put Crista McHugh’s books down.

The Queen B* Strikes Back (The Queen B* #2) by Crista McHugh sees the return of Alexis and Brett and the sexual tension between them has risen again (if you could believe such a thing is possible after reading the first book in the series Confessions of a Queen B). More of the history between Alexis and Summer is revealed and Brett’s loyalties are tested to the max.

Phew! If all that wasn’t enough, The Queen B* Strikes Back (The Queen B* #2) by Crista McHugh takes on a more serious topic. Whilst I won’t reveal what that topic is I will say that Crista McHugh handles it with decorum and dignity. It shows, once again, that McHugh does not talk down to her audience. She treats the young adults reading her book with respect in the knowledge that they can handle contentious issues and that is a really brave thing to do.

I salute you Crista McHugh.

Alexis Wyndham is the other type of Queen B—the Queen Bitch.

After years of being the subject of ridicule, she revels in her ability to make the in-crowd cower via the exposés on her blog, The Eastline Spy. Now that she’s carved out her place in the high school hierarchy, she uses her position to help the unpopular kids walking the hallways.

Saving a freshman from bullies? Check.
Swapping insults with the head cheerleader? Check.
Falling for the star quarterback? So not a part of her plan.

But when Brett offers to help her solve the mystery of who’s posting X-rated videos from the girls’ locker room, she’ll have to swallow her pride and learn to see past the high school stereotypes she’s never questioned—until now.

The Review

Firstly, let me get this out of the way. YA fiction is kicking some serious behind. I know I have said this time and time and time again but it is true. Confessions of a Queen B by Crista McHugh is one such YA fiction. It is your classic Romeo and Juliet story except without the teen suicide.

When Alexis and Brett get paired to work together on a school project Alexis is dismayed. She hates everybody and everything and her one goal is to get out of high school. In the meantime, she has found a way to survive it by blogging about the injustices that those who do not matriculate high in the social hierarchy have to face at the hands of the jocks and cheerleaders. Everyone fears Alexis…except for Brett.

As they get closer during their health class project, Alexis comes to realise that her prejudices might be unfounded and she finds herself falling just a little bit in love.

Confessions of a Queen B is brilliant. The writing is sharp, sassy and a little bit sexy. The sexual tension between Brett and Alexis is on point. It sounds quite strange to say that but bear with me. McHugh is writing for a teenage audience, those whose hormones are driving them crazy and she doesn’t talk down to them with her writing or descriptions. She writes her sexy scenes as they are in real life, laced with tension, heat and as if they are exciting and fun. McHugh has treated her audience with a level of respect and maturity that some YA writers shy away from. Kudos, Crista McHugh.

What is even more brilliant than the epic awesomeness of Confessions of a Queen B I hear you ask? Well, that would be that there are two more books that have followed it and yes I have downloaded them to read straight away.
