An exciting new collection of sixteen short stories.

Big stories in bitesize, perfect for commuters or a quick read before bedtime.

The Review

If you were expecting the usual Erin Lawless style found in The One with the Wedding series or Somewhere Only we Know then this is probably not the short story collection for you. Don’t get me wrong, the stories are really good but they are very different than what I would normally come to expect.

This collection has been described as ‘perfect for commuters’ and you can see why this is the case. The longest story takes just over 10 minutes but the rest are much shorter.

A mixture of modern and historical fiction among others, The Last Train Home and Other Stories is well worth the investment.

Nora Dervan is ready for her Happy Ever After. With her darling Harry waiting at the altar, and all her family and friends around her. She is certain that her special day will not be forgotten/will be one to remember…

But with her four bridesmaids hiding more secrets, than bottles of champagne. Will her big day be remembered for all the right reasons?

Bea has barely gotten past the fact that her two best friends are dating, and now they’re engaged, whilst cupid’s arrow points in a forbidden direction for Cleo. She is so distracted by her off limits, hot new colleague that she has forgotten Daisy, who has been left dreading the singles table. There’s more romance in the cheesy pick- up lines than Sarah’s own marriage, which hasn’t turned out as she hoped it would be.

With her wicked sense of humour and refreshingly honest voice, Erin Lawless brings to the life the romance (and horrors!) of wedding season.

The Review

Well pardon my language but sh*t just got serious. Holy moly, the latest instalment of the Bridesmaids series by Erin Lawless packed a hell of a punch.

In The One with the Hen Weekend, the female bridal party head to Paris for some coquettish fun and a bit of ooh la la but it’s not long before jealousy and rivalry become uninvited guests. Let’s just say that like any night out with the girls more than just drinks were spilled.

The One with the Hen Weekend I the most explosive book of the series so far. I was genuinely left gasping in shock when I turned the last page. It was an ordeal to read…and I want more. I cannot wait for the fourth and final instalment of this epic series.

Erin Lawless, once again, you have knocked my socks off!

For fans of romantic comedies like Bridesmaids and Four Weddings & a Funeral, and bestselling authors Mhairi McFarlane and David Nicholls, this is a hilarious new romantic comedy series about one bride and her four best friends.

The Review

Woohoo. Part two is finally here.

In Bridesmaids (2) – The One with the Wedding Dress, Erin Lawless takes the girls dress shopping in the Cotswolds. Let’s face it though, wedding planning is stressful and no event is more stressful than dress shopping. Rather than just having a fun time with her friends Nora has to pander to her disapproving mother who seems to be actively trying to find fault with every aspect of the wedding.

Along with pushy assistants in dress shops, friends with secrets that they are not yet willing to share, and the hunt for the perfect dress Bridesmaids (2) – The One with the Wedding Dress is fraught with difficulty. But by god, it is is a good read.

I loved Bridesmaids (2) – The One with the Wedding Dress. Erin Lawless has captured the world of weddings perfectly and the character revelations have just made the story all the more interesting. My one negative is that I felt like I had to wait ages for part two. I hope the wait for part three goes b quicker because I need to know what happens next!

Bridesmaids (2) – The One with the Wedding Dress by Erin Lawless is available 16th September 2016.

The Review

I love a good book series and Erin Lawless’s latest offering Bridesmaids – The One with the Engagement Party has the makings of being a fantastic set of stories.

Bridesmaids – The One with the Engagement Party focuses on Nora and her four best friends Bea, Cleo, Daisy and Sarah. The bride, Nora, has chosen her bridesmaids carefully and they are about to help her prepare for the biggest day of her life. However, amidst the romance and excitement of the wedding plans there are a few secrets and problems that are about to make themselves known.

Firstly, let me say, I loved the characters in this story. There is Cleo who you want to scream at because of the hot dude just wanting to kiss the face off her (I screamed angrily at my book “Kiss him you fool” on several occasions); then there is Daisy who is fun loving but we haven’t learnt all there is to know about her yet; then we have Sarah, married to Cole who is the best man, who has struggles of her own that she isn’t ready to share with the group; and then there is Bea whom I suspect has a secret yet to be revealed.

This may seem like an exhaustive list but I want to highlight just how quickly Erin Lawless has got me intrigued and invested in these characters. They are interesting, flawed and easy to love. For anyone in there thirties Bridesmaids – The One with the Engagement Party is the perfect company for those long trips to all those weddings that you have inevitably been invited to this summer.

I cannot wait for the next instalment…but I guess I am going to have to.

Hello Erin. Thank you for joining me today on LisaTalksAbout to talk about your fabulous new book Somewhere Only We Know.

As you know, I recently read this book and fell completely in love with it. You probably get asked this a lot but where did the inspiration come from to write Somewhere Only We Know?

I didn’t have to look very far for inspiration as my best friend was also a Russian-born, London-based lady and spent several years in and out of hearings about her visa status and her rights to stay in the UK. Like Nadia in the book, my friend had lived here all her known life, and spending years knowing that at basically any time she could be deported – dragged away from her friends and her partner – was horrible. And eventually, she was. I knew I wanted to write a book where the main character was inspired by how amazing and strong my best friend was through it all, I just wasn’t sure what the story was until the character of Alex wandered into my head one day. His downtrodden, mopey Britishness was a perfect foil to the get-up-and-go of the Nadia character who had been brewing for months. And a love story was born, haha!

Immigration is a particularly contentious issue at the moment. Was it a conscious decision to have it as the central theme in Somewhere Only We Know?

Immigration is definitely a hot topic – one that’s grown even hotter since I first started drafting Somewhere Only We Know. You hear about “30,000 Romanians” about to migrate to London, and when you already can’t fit on the buses that take you to work in the morning, or you can’t get your child a place in a school within ten miles of your house, it’s definitely acceptable to be concerned. What I tried to get across with Nadia and with Somewhere Only We Know though was that we should never lose sight of the individual.

London is as much a character as Alex and Nadia in Somewhere Only We Know. You describe the city beautifully. Where are your top recommended spots/favourite places to visit in the Big Smoke?

I do love London. It’s a very special city. Like Nadia, Alex and co I spent my early twenties living there and there definitely is no better way to experience it! “Nadia” has very helpfully written a series on hidden secrets of the city, but those of the “usual suspects” that definitely shouldn’t be missed are a walk along the Southbank (maybe down to Shakespeare’s Globe! You can sometimes get on-the-day tickets for £5!); grab something tasty at Borough Market; grab a gin at the Ten Bells pub in Whitechapel and muse over who Jack the Ripper really was……

Do you have a particular writing process?

I have a full-time job so my writing gets slotted in wherever and whenever it possibly can! I do spend a long time turning a story over in my head before I move to a notebook, jotting down a giant mess that would make no sense to anybody but me. So I’m usually quite confident in the story and its characters and progression before I actually begin writing and as a result my first drafts are super clean – neither of my novels have materially changed from first draft to publication – they just get tarted up a little!

What piece of advice would you offer to the budding novelist?

Try and write something – anything! – and read every single day – any athlete would exercise, and so should you.

So, what is next for Erin Lawless? Can you give us any clues on your next project?

I’ve just moved onto the “notebook” stage of my new book, so we’re a long way from land with it yet! What I can tell you is that I am completely in love with my main character, Lacey (probably because she is the character closest to me that I have ever written, heehee!). It’s a romcom all about the fall-out after a couple decide to make a list of all the celebrities they’re allowed to sleep with. Let’s just say one half of the couple takes it more seriously than the other…

Thank you for speaking with me today.

Thank you so much for having me!!
